September marks the return of the 2K Cigars event season.

 

And we could not think of a better way to begin.

 

On Wednesday, September 30th, we return to Chelona Restaurant for an evening dedicated to The Governor – the cigar created by 2K Cigars to celebrate our 5th Anniversary.

 

An evening where cigar craftsmanship, Greek history, premium Cognac and fine dining come together around one very special cigar.

The Governor is more than a cigar.

 

Created exclusively for 2K Cigars by Oscar Valladares, The Governor was conceived as a tribute to Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first Governor of the modern Greek State – and as a celebration of five years of 2K Cigars.

 

The cigar itself reflects the anniversary it represents.

 

Its tobacco is aged for five years – one year for every year of our journey.

 

A 5 × 50 Robusto, The Governor features a Dark Reddish-Brown Honduran Corojo Sungrown Wrapper, a Nicaraguan Binder, and Honduran & Nicaraguan Filler.

 

The result is a medium-bodied, smooth and balanced cigar, with notes of black pepper, cedar, espresso, cocoa, cinnamon and sweet spices.

Presented by its Creators

 

 

This will not be a conventional cigar presentation.

 

The story of The Governor will be presented by George Katsiaris and Nikolaos Kelaiditis, the owners of 2K Cigars and the creators of the project.

 

We will take you behind the cigar itself – from the original idea and inspiration, to the development of the blend, the selection of tobacco, the construction of the cigar, its production with Oscar Valladares, and the thinking behind every detail of the project.

 

An opportunity to discover The Governor from the people who conceived it and brought it to life.

  The Man Behind the Name

Ioannis Kapodistrias

 

• But to understand The Governor, we also need to understand the man who inspired it.

 

• For this part of the evening, we are delighted to welcome Mr. Aris Katopodis, historian and researcher at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, specialising in the history of Modern Hellenism.

 

• Mr. Katopodis will take us beyond the familiar portrait of Kapodistrias and into the story of the man himself – his vision, his role in the creation of the modern Greek State, and the historical context in which he served as its first Governor.

 

• His contribution to The Governor goes beyond this evening. Drawing on his historical research, Mr. Katopodis also contributed to the historical research and conceptual development behind the cigar’s design, helping us ensure that the details incorporated into the cigar band and presentation box were rooted in authentic historical references connected to Kapodistrias.

 

• His research has included significant aspects of the Greek Revolution and the history of the early Greek state, while he has also contributed research to projects specifically connected with Ioannis Kapodistrias.

 

• An opportunity to discover the history behind the name.

 

 

A Story Told Through Design

 

Every detail of The Governor was created to carry part of that story.

 

At the centre of the cigar band is a portrait of Ioannis Kapodistrias, inspired by Gerasimos Pizzamanos’ historic portrait of Kapodistrias as a diplomat at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

Beside him appears the Phoenix – the first official currency of the newly established Greek State, introduced by Kapodistrias in 1828.

 

A symbol of rebirth and national renewal.

 

Even the ornamental pattern running across the cigar band and presentation box has a direct historical connection: it reproduces the ornamentation found on Kapodistrias’ personal tobacco case.

 

The result is a cigar that connects Greek history with the timeless aesthetics of the golden age of cigars.
